Cloud9 was able to take the second semifinal after three maps, the last one, on Overpass, particularly contested as it went into double OT.
The first map of the semifinal was Cobblestone, MOUZ’s pick, although it was Cloud9 that took the lead after winning the first four rounds. The fifth round went the way of MOUZ, but they team were quickly reset as Tarik "tarik" Celik killed Miikka "suNny" Kemppi in a 1vs1 to take a 5-1 lead. The first half eventually turned around, though, as the European combine brought it up to a tie and won the last five rounds for a 9-6 lead at the switch.
Despite winning the pistol round, Cloud9 were unable to capitalize on it as they lost the anti-eco, allowing MOUZ to get ahead 12-7. Martin "STYKO" Styk and suNny were then able to turn a 2vs4 around on A site to further lengthen their lead as well as put the American team’s economy further in the pit. Despite having a six round cushion, It was ultimately Cloud9 that took the map after making a comeback, winning nine rounds in a row on the defending side to turn their rival’s map around.
The second map was a completely different story, as MOUZ jumped out of the gate on the terrorist side with a huge lead, giving up a single round to Cloud9 in the first ten rounds on Mirage, and winning the half 11-4.
Cloud9 won the second pistol round and the two anti-ecos to stay alive, and kept their streak rolling against a moneyless MOUZ. Despite a hairy start for the European combine, as Cloud9 won six of the first seven rounds of the half, MOUZ got back on track on the defending side and closed the map out 16-10.
The third and final map, Overpass, kicked off with Jake "Stewie2K" Yip winning the pistol round on the counter-terrorist side, and once again one of the two teams took a big lead early on as Cloud9 gained a 5-0 lead. After winning two and forcing the American side to forcebuy, MOUZ were able to close the gap to 5-3, but Cloud9 were able to bounce back and stop the European side’s offensives. Down 5-8, Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný was able to play a 1vs3 in which he traded one, planted, and killed the last two with his AWP, giving his team a sixth round before the half, into which they went trailing 6-9.
A clean pistol round by Cloud9 in which tarik and Stewie2K both got doubles edged the North Americans closer to victory, but the MOUZ once again won an anti-eco to stay on Cloud9’s tail on the scoreboard, barreling to within one after winning two anti-ecos of their own. The European side then brought it to a tie after winning the first gun round, making Cloud9 take a tactical timeout.
The tactical timeout seemed to pay dividends as Cloud9 won the following round with a B execute, and were then able to further increment their lead to 12-10. A double by Stewie2K in connector refragging after William "RUSH" Wierzba died gave Cloud9 the upper hand in the following round, but a double by Robin "ropz" Kool evened it out and he and suNny were able to get MOUZ back within one.
After falling behind 12-13, MOUZ won another eco round to tie the score up, and once again Cloud9 decided to take a tactical pause. Losing the following round, it was the Europeans that took a timeout of their own heading into a decisive forcebuy round. The players from the old continent gave up the fifteenth round, but were able to bring it to the last round of regulation, and then tie it to take it to overtime.
The extra rounds started going the way of MOUZ, who stayed on the CT side in the first half, and despite losing to an A execute on the following round, were able to close out the first half in the lead, 17-16. The second half of overtime kicked off with Cloud9’s Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham getting two late round AWP kills to tie the match up. After trading rounds, the map went into a second overtime. Cloud9, starting on the CT side put up a wall and were able to take the first three rounds, closing it out with a 22-18 victory to move on to the final.
